Hidden actions and preferences for timing of resolution of uncertainty

چکیده
We study preferences for timing of resolution of objective uncertainty in a simple menu-choice model with two stages of information arrival. We characterize a general class of utility representations called hidden action representations, which interpret an intrinsic preference for timing of resolution of uncertainty as if an unobservable action is taken between the resolution of the two periods of information arrival. These representations permit a richer class of preferences for timing than was possible in Kreps and Porteus (1978) by incorporating a preference for flexibility. Our model contains several special cases where this hidden action can be given a novel economic interpretation, including a subjective-state-space model of ambiguity aversion and a model of costly contemplation. ∗We thank the National Science Foundation (Grants SES-0850980 and SES-0851066) for financial support, and Eddie Dekel and Pablo Schenone for helpful comments. A Subjective Model of Temporal Preferences
We study preferences for timing of resolution of objective uncertainty in a simple menu choice model with two stages of information arrival. We characterize two general classes of utility representations called linear hidden action representations. The representations can be interpreted as if an unobservable action is taken by the individual (or by the malevolent nature, depending on whether th...

Ultra-wideband (UWB) radio is a promising technology for low-cost, high-rate communications at short ranges. However, high bandwidth and low power of the UWB signals impose some difficult challenges in signal processing and implementation of the receiver. Acquisition of the signal timing is the first task to be performed in a coherent receiver. The high bandwidth of UWB signals demand for fine ...
متن کاملA Term Structure Model with Preferences for the Timing of Resolution of Uncertainty
In this paper we present a model of the term structure of interest rates with imperfect information and stochastic differential utility, a form of non-additive recursive utility. A principal feature of recursive utility, that distinguishes it from time-separable expected utility, is its dependence on the timing of resolution of uncertainty. In our model, we parametrize the non-linearity of recu...
متن کاملNeural Imaging Using Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes
Introduction: This paper analyses the ability of single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) for neural imaging. The current trend in the production of SPADs moves toward the minimumdark count rate (DCR) and maximum photon detection probability (PDP). Moreover, the jitter response which is the main measurement characteristic for the timing uncertainty is progressing. Methods: The neural imaging pro...
